Green never abandoned his blues roots and brought the sound to his jazz improvisations
Introduction
Grant Green used the sound and style of the blues in many of his solos. His articulation of the blue notes, similar to that of Charlie Parker, is a signature part of his sound. In this lesson we look at the harmonic structure of the blues scales and four different licks taken directly from Grant Green solos. We will discuss their context, harmonic implications, and how we can use these ideas directly in our playing.
