Guitarist Tim Cummiskey

 

Central Ohio guitarist and Educator Tim Cummiskey performs as both a leader and a sideman throughout the Midwest.  Tim currently leads several groups ranging from solo jazz and classical guitar to larger group configurations.   

 

As a sideman, Tim has performed and/or conducted clinics with John Abercrombie, Howard Alden, Carl Allen, Gene Bertoncini, Michael Feinstein, Benny Golson, Tim Hagans, Ingrid Jensen,  Robert Klien, Romero Lubambo, Hank Marr,  Lee Oskar,  Patti Page, Rick Peckham,  Bucky Puzzler, Debbie Reynolds, Neil Sedaka,  Howard Shore,  Russell Watson, Jack Wilkins, Frank Vignola,   The Columbus Jazz Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Opera Columbus among Others.

In addition to his busy performance schedule, Tim Has conducted clinics at the annual convention of the International Association of Jazz Educators, OMEA and numerous colleges throughout the midwest.

 

Tim has 5 recordings on the String Jazz label, Bucky Puzzler said of Tim’s 2nd CD ‘Redeeming the Time’’ “‘I have listened to this album from beginning to end, Tim is a plectrum master, he has arrived”.

Tim’s first book released in 2005 by Mel Bay “Learning Tunes Workout” has received critical acclaim and popular appeal.   

His 2013 recordng"Lamentation"  garnered rave reviews from popular polls and critics alike.

 

Tim served for 18 years as a member of the jazz studies faculty of the Ohio State University School of Music and served  on the  music faculty of Kenyon College for 6 years.  

 

He currently serves on the Jazz Academy Faculty/The Lincoln Theatre/Jazz Arts Group.

 

Tim currently also serves on the music ministry team of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church under the direction and apprenticeship of renown church and liturgical composer Mike Martin.  

Tim is also a contribution writer to Downbeat Magazine, Jazz Improv  and Just Jazz Guitar Magazine.  

 

Tim is a MelBay Author and is a Benedetto Guitars Artist and endorser.
