About Robert Radliff
Introduction
Originally from New York City, Robert was raised in South Florida, where he began his musical studies on both violin and piano. Robert was a prize winner in many Florida music competitions, and after high school went on to study violin performance at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD. After receiving his Bachelor’s, he attained his Master of Arts in Performance at Montclair State University where he was the Graduate Assistant to the orchestra. Robert has been featured as guest soloist with numerous orchestra and Florida and along the East Coast, and has collaborated with some of the world’s most iconic musical figures such as YoYo Ma, Itzahk Perlman, Jamie Laredo, and many others. He performs regularly at Carnegie Hall, and has recently founded a chamber music series at the New Jersey Institute of Technology known as “Music in the Library”. Robert is also the acting concertmaster of the South Orange Symphony, a position he has held since August of 2015. Robert gives private violin lessons in the South Orange/Maplewood community, and is also head of the Violin Group Class program at The Robert Treat Academy Charter School in Newark, NJ.
My Teaching Background
Robert has been teaching private violin lessons for 6 years. He teaches all ages and abilities, and from beginner to professional level. Robert has served as substitute violin faculty at the Montclair State University Preparatory academy, where he was responsible not only for private violin lessons, but also coaching chamber ensembles, orchestra violin sectionals, and leading the string orchestra on the podium as conductor. Robert's private students perform with several North Jersey youth symphonies, and are also concerto competition winners.
My Teaching Philosophy
Robert's approach to violin pedagogy is routed in the traditional European Classical Style. Robert is not a Suzuki Method certified instructor. Robert places great emphasis on posture, form, and technique, with a heavy emphasis on learning scales and arpeggios. Robert believes the initial set-up period during the beginning few lessons are crucial to overall development, and puts extra weight into making sure beginning students avoid the most common left- and right-hand issues.
Rates And Availability
Robert teaches both at his private home studio, and also offers "in-home" lessons. Rates are subject to the length of lesson, and travel distance from his home in South Orange. All "in-home" lesson rates will be higher than those of his private studio.
