About Matt Genders
Matt is a freelance cellist and cello teacher based out of Philadelphia, PA. He received is Master’s degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, studying with former Los Angeles Philharmonic principal cellist Peter Stumpf, and his bachelor’s degree at Temple University, studying with cellist Jeffrey Solow.
As a chamber musician, Matt has studied with Menahem Pressler, Mark Kaplan, Jorja Fleezanis, and members of the Borodin Trio, among others. Additional studies include masterclasses with Fred Sherry, Colin Carr, Tokyo String Quartet, St. Lawerence String Quartet, and Ben Zander. As an orchestral musician, Matt has been a section member of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and Terre Haute Symphony.
Matt has held positions on the faculty of Temple University, the Music School of Delaware, Darlington Arts Center, and Nelly Berman School. He currently maintains a successful studio out of his home, and spends his free time taking pictures, and enjoys time with his wife, Liz.
