Madelaine German is a singer, songwriter, pianist, melodica player, bandleader, film score composer and music educator.

Maddy was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, where she began learning the keyboard as soon as she could sit up at the piano bench. She grew up the daughter of a music teacher. Madelaine’s mother, Lynne German, was a piano and theory teacher in the James Madison University music department. Lynne also ran a two-tiered piano studio; she required one half of every student’s lesson to be an actual piano lesson, and the other half of all students’ lessons to be dedicated to the learning of music theory.

At age 9, Madelaine began teaching music theory to her mother’s students through her studio’s "Theory Lab" classroom, and continued her working relationship with her mother’s studio throughout high school, when Madelaine began taking piano students of her own. Madelaine has carried her mother’s unique approach to music teaching into her own teaching style; pulling on the discipline, parental involvement, regimented course progression and public performance involvement required by Suzuki methods, while also taking more of a creative and individualized approach to her student’s (and their parents’) personal learning methods. She believes that music should be FUN, and tailors her teaching style to each of her individual students' needs, strengths, and learning style.
