About Alexander Strachan
Alexander is a classically trained violinist driven to use his passion for music to serve the community. His grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and breast cancer but managed to always smile when he played for her. He recently traveled to Japan with TEAM international missions where he played in churches, hospitals, universities, retirement homes, residential homes, mental facilities, and reformatories throughout the Azumino and Matsumoto areas in Nagano prefecture. Alexander is a frequent performer throughout the metropolitan area in local libraries, hospitals, and assisted-living homes. He was a featured young musician on Prince George’s Community Channel for his work in bringing concerts to the elderly in assisted-living. Alexander received his Bachelor of Arts in Violin Performance from Dickinson College where he had the opportunity to perform for Jonathan Carney and David Kim. He also toured with Sinfonietta Polonia in Poland where they performed in historic churches and theaters to celebrate the New Year's Holiday.
Alexander is a versatile performer and has had the opportunity to help craft violin music with groups ranging from GoGo with Backyard Band to bluegrass and folk with War and Treaty. He also had the opportunity to perform with Grammy nominated singer Tank for a special Mother’s Day celebration in MD. He was also invited by the United States Secret Service to provide music to give tribute in honoring our fallen heroes. Alexander manages a senior’s music outreach program and studio to utilize music in hopes of healing and inspiring others. He uses music to interact with special needs children and providing concerts for the homeless in DC. Alexander also partners with breast cancer awareness organizations to perform music for survivors and those who currently battle the disease.
As a teacher, Alexander is passionate about empowering students through the power of music. He uses a combination of etudes and traditional Suzuki methodology to teach technique while using popular tunes to teach rhythm and body movement with the violin. He has taught students from all ages and has experience with teaching children with special needs. Alexander's goals for his students are for them to discover their individuality as a musician and share their music in the community. Alexander learned through his teachers, Blanka Bednarz and Ben Shute, that music is more than the notes on the page but the person sharing their talents to perform for others.
