About: Groove Academy - School of Music

Groove Academy School of Music, (originally In The Pocket Drum Studio, aka ITP Drum Studio), started its journey in 2006. Owner Anthony Giancola began his teaching career though various private music schools in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

“We saw a need for something more in the drum and percussion community:  We envisioned a place where students would be offered superior drum and percussion education, where students would have access to every imaginable percussion instrument—from drum set, to orchestral percussion, to hand drums.  We also wanted to provide our students with an abundance of performance opportunities, having them gain stage experience and utilizing their abilities and musical knowledge they have learned.”

The school became a place where drum and percussion students were offered multiple performance opportunities, fulfilling the goal of a program specialized on drumming and percussion.

Now as Groove Academy - School of Music, we have extended by now offering music lessons for: Piano, guitar, voice, violin, bass guitar, drum set and woodwind lessons.

Groove Academy's Philosophy is:

1.  We must provide our students with a high standard of music education.  All students and instructors will come up with a clear plan, discuss goals and direction, before enrollment.  Our music programs, are designed to adapt to each student’s needs and how they learn best, (audio, visual, and/or kinesthetic).  As a result, each student receives customized music lessons. 

2.  Groove Academy insures our students are learning from highly qualified instructors.  All of our instructors are RCM qualified, hold a university or college degree and are “in” the music business.

3.  We provide our students with an abundance of performance  and scholarship opportunities, having our students gain stage experience at Groove Academy events and local events around Winnipeg, nationally and internationally.
