About Alexandria Music

Students who have the privilege of being taught by Dr. Shagidullina gain an edge in their musical pursuits. They benefit from her deep knowledge, her commitment to excellence, and her ability to inspire. With the guidance of such a distinguished professional, violin students are not just learning to play an instrument; they are immersing themselves in a rich musical legacy, preparing to leave their mark in the world of classical music. If you'd like more information about her violin lessons in Alexandria, please get in touch.

She also offers violin lessons in Northern Virginia -- students from Mclean, Fairfax, and the surrounding areas travel to Alexandria Music Studio.

Embarking on the journey of learning the violin is both exciting and challenging. In the initial two years of violin lessons, students can expect a layered experience as they build foundational skills and cultivate their musical ear.

The first few lessons often focus on understanding the instrument itself: its parts, how to hold it correctly, and basic care and maintenance. Students learn the proper posture, bow hold, and finger placements, all crucial for producing a clean sound and preventing bad habits.

Gradually, basic note reading and rhythm exercises are introduced. Students begin with simple scales and etudes, progressing to more complex pieces as their technique solidifies. Intonation — playing in tune — becomes a consistent focus, aided by ear-training exercises. Bowing techniques, crucial for tone production, are introduced and refined.

Throughout these two years, students also gain exposure to basic musical theory, learning about dynamics, tempo, and key signatures. Recitals or group performances might be interspersed, offering students a chance to experience the joy of sharing music with others.

With consistent practice and guidance, by the end of the second year, students will not only have developed fundamental skills but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the beauty and discipline of violin playing.
