About Matthew Jarosch
I was fortunate enough to receive partial scholarship to attend the DePaul University School of Music and concentrate my work there in Jazz Studies. During my time at the university, I had the opportunity to broaden my perspective on the trombone by studying with several of the trombone faculty. I spent most of my time working with Tim Coffman, but was able to work with composer and arranger, Thomas Matta, and Charles Vernon, the bass trombonist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, I studied with other jazz faculty instrumentalists such as Denis Carroll and Jim Trompeter. These mentorships gave me a perspective on music performance from the rhythm section. As a result of these diversified studies, I have a well rounded view not only in the pedagogical approach to the trombone, but on the jazz idiom as well. In addition to my musical studies, I pursed a minor in both Mathematics and Business. I have a heightened edge when discussing what it means to be a self proprietor as a performer in the music industry. All of these aspects of my education I highly value, and prioritize in educating my students.
