About Devin Waldman
Devin Brahja Waldman is a New York City saxophonist, drummer, synthesizer player and composer. He has over five years of experience as a saxophone, drum and piano instructor. Waldman received his bachelor's in jazz performance from McGill University in Montreal. He leads Brahja Waldman Ensemble (a New York/Montreal group which has released six albums to date) and has performed with the likes of Patti Smith, Thurston Moore and Lydia Lunch. He has accompanied his aunt, poet Anne Waldman, since the age of nine. Waldman is a member of the band Heroes Are Gang Leaders (founded by poet Thomas Sayers Ellis and saxophonist James Brandon Lewis). Growing up, Waldman's mentor was luminary pianist Paul Bley. In partnership with Anne Waldman and his cousin Ambrose Bye, Waldman co-directs Fast Speaking Music: an NYC poetry and music label which has released works by Amiri Barka, Meredith Monk, Eileen Myles and many others.
