Biography
Violinist Ray Dotoratos has performed internationally in recital and solo orchestral appearances. His many recital and chamber music performances include Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall, New York City’s Town Hall, Performing Arts Center of the State University of New York at Purchase, the Clemens Center for the Performing Arts, City University of New York, Corbett Auditorium, University of Cincinnati, The Lyman Center for the Performing Arts, Southern Connecticut State University, the Park Hill Chamber Music Series, Southern Vermont Music Festival, Lake Placid Arts Center, The Juilliard Theatre, Estherwood as well as performances on National Public Radio and WETS-FM Classical Radio.
Ray Dotoratos received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music from The Juilliard School where he studied with the foremost violin teacher of the 20th century, Ivan Galamian and with Margaret Pardee. His musical training also included attendance at the Meadowmount School of Music. Mr. Dotoratos was a recipient of a full scholarship from the American Federation of Musicians.
Mr. Dotoratos was invited to perform for Lenwood Sloan, Director of Funding of the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C. and for other government dignitaries. He has also performed in Nassau, Bahamas at the invitation of its government.
Ray Dotoratos has appeared as soloist with The Mozart Festival Orchestra, The Juilliard Chamber Orchestra, The Juilliard Composers Concert, the Charlotte Orchestra, Hudson Valley Symphony, Oakwood Symphony Orchestra and Huntsville Symphony Orchestra members among others. He was soloist with The Mozart Festival Orchestra in New York City for a performance honoring famed American composer and critic, Virgil Thomson, on the occasion of his ninetieth birthday celebration.
Mr. Dotoratos has also performed recitals at the Asheville Chamber Music Series, University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Berea College, Austin Peay State University, The Rhodes Center for the Arts, Tennessee State University, Lee University, Cumberland College, Union College, Fine Arts Association of Southeastern Kentucky, Gastonia Community Concert Association, Gardner-Webb University, Georgia Southwestern College Fine Arts, Oakwood College, Wallace Community College, and Milligan College.
Ray Dotoratos' repertoire encompasses some 65 concertos, 110 sonatas and 214 short works. He is a specialist in researching the composer’s autograph, facsimile scores and first editions for each work that he performs and teaches.
Committed to contributing educational programs across the country, Ray Dotoratos with pianist Gary Hammond donates school performances while concertizing, promoting an understanding and enjoyment of a diversity of music for all ages and levels of musical appreciation. The White House has cited them for their "very impressive outreach program."
